Congressman King’s fundraising email, response to critics

Congressman Steve King has just sent an email to supporters. Read it below.

Dear Friend,

The pro-amnesty crowd is out in full force against me.

Politics 101: If you are wrong on the issues, attack the opposition.

It isn’t that I like being their number one target; it’s just that I can’t sit on the sidelines when issues of the utmost importance come before me.

Pro-amnesty advocates are tenacious and dishonest in their attacks. They are willing to do anything to try to win a political victory, regardless of the cost to our society, values, and future.

If you want an example of their misleading attacks, look no further than their recent rehashing of my remarks during a campaign stop last year, when they claim I made offensive remarks towards immigrants. In just the last few days there have been multiple headlines repeating these claims. Watch the video and decide for yourself if my remarks were offensive or not.

In this video it is clear I complimented legal immigrants. In fact, I’ve even received dozens of messages from Hispanics who have watched the video letting me know it was complimentary and many of them declared their disgust for the way the left has tried to twist my words! If you also agree, I hope you’ll make a generous donation of $25, $50, $100 or more after you watch the video. Every single dollar you’re able to give will help me fight back against these baseless attacks.

Just this week, a headline from Opposing Views declared, “Most Undocumented Immigrants are Drug Smugglers, Claims Rep. Steve King.” This story has been linked and rewritten by almost all the major networks and newspapers across the country and in Iowa. Once again, I’ve posted the video below and you can decide for yourself if I came anywhere close to saying, “Most undocumented immigrants are drug smugglers.” Mark my words, this headline will still be circulated consistently from now to Election Day 2014…even though they made it up.

As a Representative in the U.S. House, it would be easy for me to stay quiet and keep out of contentious debates like this, but I hold this Republic in too high of regard to let anyone take away my voice. But this does come at a price. The left will use these made up headlines in TV and radio commercials to influence the voters of Iowa’s 4th District to vote against me. Without my own war chest, I won’t be able to defend myself and set the record straight with Iowans.

Can I count on you to contribute $25, $50, $100 or more to my campaign to help fend off these attacks? If every one of you who receive this email were to just give $15 today, we would raise enough money to pay for television ads on every Des Moines network station for this entire election cycle – and the left will be hard pressed to fight back.

Thank you for taking the time to watch this video. Truth is a necessary component in public debate and standing on it we can continue this great experiment we call the United States of America.

Sincerely,

Steve King
Member of Congress, Iowa

P.S. To get some background on my comments about drug smugglers, this article is a must read. Also, please do what you can to support my campaign. With the left’s willingness to disburse lies and manipulate the electorate, we must be able to defend ourselves. Please follow this link to watch the video and make a generous donation to my campaign. Thanks—Steve
