AUDIO: Mayor Booker speaks to IA delegates in Charlotte

AUDIO of Booker’s half hour speech. (He stepped away from the lectern and roamed the stage, so some of the audio is “slightly off mic” as we radio people say.)

Newark Mayor Cory Booker spoke thsi morning to the Iowa delegates at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte. He began by talking about his grandmother, who was born in Iowa and his family roots in Buxton, Iowa. (Learn more about Buxton from an Iowa Public Television documentary.)  Booker told jokes. He got serious. He made the women in the crowd cry.  He closed with a Langston Hughes poem.  After his speech, delegates were more than willing to say he’s a 2016 prospect.

Booker posed for pictures with Iowa delegates and the Iowa Democratic Party’s staff, but did not stop for questions from Iowa reporters before he got in his white SUV and left.
