The following news release comes from The Family Leader, a group headed by Bob Vander Plaats, an Iowa conservative who endorsed presidential candidates Mike Huckabee in 2007 and Rick Santorum in 2011. It appears a Huckabee/Santorum double-bill is coming to Iowa this summer.
Pleasant Hill, IOWA. – The FAMiLY LEADER, in conjunction with The National Organization for Marriage, ActRight, and Citizens United, is pleased to announce The FAMiLY Leadership Summit on Saturday, August 11th. The FAMiLY Leadership Summit is scheduled to take place in Des Moines, Iowa at a location to be announced at a later date.
The purpose of The FAMiLY Leadership Summit is to educate and mobilize the conservative base regarding specific issues that impact the family. The summit will provide Iowans the opportunity to hear top conservative national leaders, gathered together in one place, cast their leadership vision for advancing conservative principles. Each speaker’s message will focus on an issue that directly impacts (positively or negatively) the family.
The FAMiLY Leadership Summit will be anchored by the 2008 and 2012 Iowa caucus winners, former Governor Mike Huckabee and former Senator Rick Santorum. Other high profile business, ministry, and national/state political leaders will be named at a later date. Iowa’s senior and favorite Senator, Charles Grassley, will serve as The FAMiLY Leadership Summit’s honored guest and host.
Bob Vander Plaats, President & CEO of The FAMiLY LEADER said, “We are thrilled that Governor Huckabee and Senator Santorum have graciously agreed to participate in our event and welcome the opportunity to bring other top national conservative leaders to the heartland. The dates of The FAMiLY Leadership Summit coincide with the Iowa State Fair which is a ‘bucket list’ item for many and a must-stop for all aspiring presidential hopefuls and national/international leaders. Tying into the Iowa State Fair is our summit tag line, ‘planting seeds for a conservative harvest’.”
Vander Plaats also said, “As a key toss up state, Iowans have the opportunity to help shape the outcome of the 2012 election. There is much at stake for the strength of our families. The initiation of this summit is designed to engage our significant statewide and national networks in selecting our future leaders. Due to Iowa’s pivotal status in determining our next president, this event is sure to garner much media and pro-economic, pro-constitution, and pro-family attendance.”
