Latest voter #s indicate Latham/Boswell race to play out in GOP-leaning district

Two of the nation’s most-closely-watched congressional races will play out in Iowa this fall.  Former Iowa First Lady Christie Vilsack is challenging Republican Congressman Steve King’s bid for a fifth term.  In a more rare contest featuring incumbent versus incumbent, Congressman Tom Latham — a Republican first elected in 1994 — will be running against Congressman Leonard, a Democrat first elected in 1996.

The latest information from the Iowa Secretary of State’s office indicates the new third congressional district in which the Latham/Boswell contest will play out has a slight Republican voter registration edge as of February 1, 2012.  Read the details of voter registration in that district and the other three here.   Boswell’s the only one of Iowa’s five congressmen who’ll be running in a district that doesn’t favor his own party, voter registration wise.
