Gingrich’s Iowa staff departs

Paid advisors/campaign staff for Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich have quit en masse.  Craig Schoenfeld, the head of the Newt team in Iowa, has resigned. Schoenfeld is a lawyer, a statehouse lobbyist and a former legislative staffers for Republicans.

Another exiter from the Gingrich camp is Katie Koberg, former Iowans for Tax Relief v.p. who resigned from ITR earlier this spring along with other top ITR folks.  Koberg had been instrumental in organizing the tour Gingrich took of the state in May, a fairly positive spin when Gingrich attracted big crowds in places like Dubuque, Ames and Marhshalltown.

Will Rogers, another Gingrich aide in Iowa, had already departed from the campaign days ago. Gingrich hasn’t been on the Iowa campaign trail this month.  He’s been on a vacation, cruising around Greece.  Gingrich emailed out a statement today, saying his campaign would “begin anew” on Sunday in Los Angeles.
