Mic check: 1, 2, 3?

None of the microphones on the desks of individual state senators are working this morning.  The microphone in the center of the chamber, at the president’s desk, was working, so a prayer was said and the Pledge was recited, but there were no big speeches from senators this morning.

“A short announcement. We’re back to the good old days.  The mics out there don’t work,” Senate President Kibbie announced right after the Pledge.

He asked if any senator wanted to give a “point of personal privilege” (it means this is a time when ssenators can speak on any topic, for as long as they want).

“Keep in mind that you don’t have a mic,” Kibbie added.

One senator indicated he had something to say, and Kibbie said this as there was some confusion about the sound system:  “There’s none of ’em work, so you’re in the same boat as everybody else.”

There were no speeches.  Democrats and Republicans are meeting separately, in private, at this hour.
