In one of his first acts as governor, Terry Branstad joined a lawsuit challenging the federal health care reform law. Today, Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller anounced he has joined five attorneys general on a “friend of the court” brief which defends the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act of 2010 (the health care reform law).
The other attorneys general come from the states of California, Connecticut, New York, Oregon and Vermont. From a news release issued by Miller’s office:
The attorneys general are joining with patients’ rights groups in filing this amicus brief defending the constitutionality of the federal Affordable Care Act in the case of Thomas More Law Center v. Barack Hussein Obama, one of the several legal challenges to the federal legislation. The case challenges the law’s requirement that non-exempted individuals maintain a minimum level of health insurance coverage.
Health care reform act unconstitutional? Maybe not.
