“My hair color’s changed, but my signature hasn’t,” Governor Terry Branstad joked moments ago. Branstad presided over a meeting of the Executive Council, a board comprised of statewide elected officials. He presided over hundreds of Executive Council meetings during his previous 16-year run as governor. The council makes spending decisions, like approving out-of-state travel requests. The council just approved a $6700 trip to the Netherlands, Belgium and France for a D.E.D. employee who promotes biofuels like ethanol.
The council has just certified the election of Senator Joni Ernst. Branstad was first to sign the certificate of election (and make the joke noted above as he put his John Hancock on the document). Ernst will be sworn in at 12:45 p.m. today.
