Rod Roberts returns to deliver prayer

Former State Representative Rod Roberts of Carroll, a Republican candidate for governor in 2010 and an ordained Christian minister, returned to the Iowa House this morning to deliver the opening prayer.  (Governor-elect Branstad has asked Roberts to lead the Iowa Dept. of Inspections & Appeals.)

“Good morning. I didn’t think I’d be back so soon, but I appreciate the invitation of Rep. Upmeyer to bring the invocation this morning. Let’s pray,” Roberts began. “Our great Eternal Father in Heaven, we thank you for this day of life. It is a gift from you, filled with promise. I ask your blessing upon these elected officials, these men and woman called by the people of Iowa to serve them in the Iowa House of Representatives. Grant them wisdom, good judgment and discernment as they address the challenges and the issues confronting our state. Heavenly Father, we ask your blessing upon the men and women who serve in the military, particularly those from our state.  Bless them and watch over them. Bless the families of these representatives.  Keep them save as they are apart from their loved ones.  May these men and women never lose that sense of wonder and awe of being honored with the privilege of serving the people of Iowa. May they view their work as a trust, as an important responsibility.  Now, may we all make the most of this day and we give you thanks for all of the good things you share with us.  In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.”
