61 apply for three openings on Iowa Supreme Court

Sixty-one people have applied for the three openings on the Iowa Supreme Court.  One of them is a Republican state legislator. Rep. Richard Anderson of Clarinda is an attorney.  Another — Inga Bumbary-Langston — was part of Governor-elect Terry Branstad’s previous administration.  Governor Culver’s “drug czar” — Gary Kendall — has applied; Branstad chose someone else as drug czar.

Matt Whitaker, former US attorney for the southern district of Iowa during George W. Bush’s administration, has applied, as has Matt Dummermuth, former US attorney for the northern district of Iowa during George W. Bush’s administration.

Others on the list of applicants:  the Delaware County Attorney; 13 district court judges; a member of the Iowa Court of Appeals; a University of Iowa law professor and the executive director of the Drake Legal Clinic.
