Could Vilsack be Obama’s next chief of staff? Apparently not.

Published reports suggest former Governor Tom Vilsack may be on the short list of folks President Obama is considering for the role of White House chief of staff.  Howard Fineman wrote about Vilsack in this Huffington Post postUPDATE:  Jeff Zeleny of The New York Times reports the following:

…Mr. Obama has narrowed his choice for chief of staff to Pete Rouse, who is serving in the post on an interim basis, or William Daley, a former commerce secretary and the brother of Chicago’s mayor, Richard Daley. Mr. Daley has signaled to aides that he will accept the position if it is offered by the president, according to an official familiar with the talks. No other candidates are in line for the job.

And Phillip Brasher of The Des Moines Register got a not-in-the-cards quote from Vilsack himself.

Vilsack talked about Obama’s reelection during an appearance on Iowa Public Television in late December.  Read more about it here.
