Four statewide elected officials sworn in today

Four statewide elected officials were sworn into office today in two separate ceremonies.  The first started a bit after 10 o’clock.  State Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald, State Auditor Dave Vaudt and Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller were sworn in during a ceremony held in the Iowa Supreme Court chamber.  Chief Justice Mark Cady administered the oaths of office.

In another ceremony which started at about 10:45, Secretary of State Matt Schultz took the oath of office as he held his 18-month old daughter.  Senior Judge Gordon Abel, a former district court judge in Council Bluffs, administered the oath.  Schultz, an attorney, had tried cases in Adel’s courtroom.

Read about the two ceremonies here.  During the first ceremony, Attorney General Miller spoke six times longer than his two counterparts, offering a commentary on the 201 0 election.  Miller called his own reelection “truly remarkable” in a year in which incumbent Democrats were in deep trouble.
