Culver “thank you” tour

Governor Chet Culver plans a “thank you” tour — a signal Culver plans the Dylan Thomas “do not go gentle into that good night” route as his term as governor winds down.  Culver said earlier this month he’d like to be the C.E.O. of a renewable energy company after he leaves the governor’s office in mid-January.  Read the details of Culver’s final trip as governor below.

Governor Culver Announces ‘Thank You Iowa’ Tour

DES MOINES – Governor Chet Culver today announced plans for a statewide “Thank You Iowa” tour that will take him to eight cities next week to meet with Iowans and thank them for the opportunity to serve the people of Iowa.

“As I prepare to leave the office of Governor, I am filled with immense gratitude for the chance to serve as the 40th governor of our great state,” Culver said. “I want to visit with Iowans and thank them for the privilege to serve.”

The two-day tour is set to begin Wednesday, Jan. 5.  It will include Wednesday stops in Council Bluffs, Sioux City, Mason City and Dubuque, and continue on Thursday, Jan. 6 with stops in Davenport, Iowa City, Cedar Rapids and Des Moines. The public and press are invited to attend.

Culver said he owes much to the Iowans he has had a chance to meet personally, whether touring the state in the wake of historic natural disasters or joining families to wish soldiers well at Iowa National Guard troop sendoffs around the state. “I will never forget the generosity, compassion and resilience I have seen in Iowans these last four years – I have learned a lot from the example of everyday Iowans. I am looking forward to this tour.”

  1. I guess he had to get in at least one more example of fiscal irresponsibility and political arrogance. Another thumb in the eye of the Iowa taxpayer. Shameful.
