Congressman Steve King has received national attention for comments he made Monday on talk radio. A Republican congressional candidate in Colorado had planned to have King as the speaker at a campaign fundraiser this Saturday. That’s been cancelled according to this story in The Coloradoan. Here’s an excerpt:
…(King) was scheduled to speak at a $100 a person fundraiser for (Republican congressional candidate Cory) Gardner on Saturday in Hudson, but the event has been scrapped, Gardner campaign manager Chris Hansen said.
Hansen wouldn’t elaborate on the reasons, but he informed the Coloradoan of the cancellation after the paper inquired about King’s remarks.
King’s campaign office has referred questions to King’s congressional office in Washington, D.C. A spokesman for King has not responded to requests for comment. An AP story about the flap is now linked on The Drudge Report with a Drudge headline of “Iowa Republican lawmaker says Obama favors blacks…” and a link to the audio. Wonkette has a post now. FOX News has linked to the AP story. Dana Milbank at The Washington Post blogged about King’s comments, using the words “crazy” and “offensive.”
