Read the latest report on state tax collections, released Thursday by the Legislative Services Agency. Through the first nine months of the state fiscal year, tax collections were down 5.6 percent compared to the same period in the previous year.
In terms of March, 2009 to March, 2010 comparisons, personal income taxes were up 7.1 percent and sales taxes were up 9.4 percent. But if you read the report, there were “timing” issues that sort of negate those gains. Instead, there was something more akin to”status quo” for sales and income tax collections from March, ’09 to March of ’10.
