Boswell’s unofficial campaign announcement

Rumors that Congressman Leonard Boswell (D-Des Moines, Iowa) will retire were dealt a setback today when Boswell himself said: “I’m running.”  Boswell said this to a small group of reporters in Des Moines.

Boswell made clear his declaration was not — in his words — an “official announcement, but I’m running.”  That would be two “I’m running” statements in less than 10 seconds.

Boswell was elected to congress in 1996.  That means he’ll be seeking an eighth term in 2010.  A handful of Republicans have lined up for the chance to face-off against Boswell this November.  Boswell didn’t really comment on the GOP primary field, other than to say he would “defend the right” of people to run for office, even if it is an office he is holding.  “This is a great country,” Boswell said, perhaps channeling the Irving Berlin tune although I can confirm Boswell was NOT singing when he said those five words.

  1. Boswell’s ego is out of control. He needs to go. I’m a Democrat and I’ll never vote for him again.
