Culver in DC

Just in case you were wondering, Governor Chet Culver is not in Iowa today.  He had an event in Des Moines on his campaign schedule for 8 a.m., but canceled — sending Lieutenant Governor Patty Judge in his place.

Culver press secretary Troy Price emailed the following Wednesday night:

We wanted to pass along a note letting you know that Governor Culver is traveling out of state starting tomorrow through Friday  The Governor leaves tomorrow morning for Washington, D.C., where he will participate in a series of events with the Democratic Governors Association.  The Governor will return to Iowa Friday afternoon, where he will attend a reception in Iowa City to honor Grant Wood with the Iowa Award.”

According to the Democratic Governors Association website, Culver and the rest of the governors are attending fundraiser with President Obama this afternoon.  Obama’s speech is expected to start at 1:50 p.m. eastern, 12:50 p.m. central. Organizers of the event in the St. Regis Hotel in D.C. expect the $5000 per plate event to raise $500,000 for Democratic governors races.  The link above invites visitors to return to the DGA site later today “for more on what President Obama shared with Democratic Governors and supporters about the most important gubernatorial elections in a generation.”

Culver is up for reelection in 2010.
