“Draft Branstad” ad airs; Democrats offer rebuttal

This past Monday the “Draft Branstad” folks announced they’ve purchased air time on the radio to tout former Governor Terry Branstad’s accomplishments.  Today (two days later), the Iowa Democratic Party issued a rebuttal. The “Draft Branstad” announcement is posted below, followed by the Iowa Democratic Party’s news release/response.

Des Moines, Iowa – In a sign of continuing momentum, Draft Branstad PAC launches a statewide radio advertisement encouraging Governor Branstad to run for governor.  “Real Leadership” radio begins today and will run through the week.

“This past week, I have heard from people all across this wonderful state, thanking me for launching Draft Branstad PAC. The encouragement has been overwhelmingly positive and encouraging. Iowans know Governor Terry Branstad is a proven and trusted leader who can help our state rebound in these difficult times,” commented Sandy Greiner.

Greiner continued, “An outpouring of support from individuals across the state has enabled this grassroots movement to go on the airwaves with this new radio ad.  To learn more about this growing grassroots movement, please visit our website or find us on Twitter or Facebook.”

Since Governor Branstad left the governorship, he has continued to serve Iowans. Currently, he is President of Des Moines University, a private medical school based in Des Moines.  Des Moines University’s graduates are vital to rural health care in Iowa.  In fact, many of the schools graduates from their programs are found in town after town in Iowa, ensuring quality, accessible healthcare for all Iowans.

Now, the response:

DES MOINES – The Iowa Democratic Party today is setting the record straight in response to some recent media expenditures coming from the Draft Terry Branstad committee.

“As a public service the Iowa Democratic Party is offering a corrected version of the misleading radio ad being aired by the Draft Terry Branstad Committee,” said state party Chairman Michael Kiernan.

Below is a side-by-side comparison of the original Branstad ad and the IDP version:
