January 23, 2010 at 1 p.m. is the start time for the 2010 Iowa Caucuses. I tried to check to see whether there would be conflicts for fans of the state's major college teams. Neither the Iowa Hawkeyes nor the Iowa State Cyclones have their men's or women's basketball schedules posted online today (7.28.09). Drake has a partial 2009/2010 basketball schedule posted online, but it doesn't go past December 22, 2009. UNI has its 2009/2010 rosters online, but no schedules either.
The college football season has been elongated by the BCS, but not quite to January 23. The 2009/2010 championship game will be played on January 7, 2010 in Pasadena.
There are no professional football teams in Iowa, but there are NFL fans. The NFL appears to have post-season games scheduled for that Sunday, January 24, but none on the 23rd. Super Bowl XLIV will be played in Miami on Sunday, February 7, 2010.
