The Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division is out with a list of the top 100 brands of liquor (distilled spirits) sold in Iowa through May of 2009. Black Velvet is #1. That would be Black Velvet whisky, not the "Black Velvet" by Alannah Myles. That Black Velvet was a song about Elvis. Really.

Thanks O. Kay. I read your post after I wrote mine and we both mentioned that song and referred to Templeton Rye as Iowa’s own.
