After Democratic leaders in the legislature held a news conference this morning, Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal (D-Council Bluffs) stopped to answer a question from Lee Enterprises/Cedar Rapids Gazette team member/reporter Charlotte Eby..Gronstal used the words "chicken" and "butt" in his response to her question about Congressman Steve King (R-Kiron). Read the results here.
Here's the key passage. "Steve King is too chicken to run for governor because he knows he would get his butt beat,” Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal, D-Council Bluffs, told reporters during an impromptu news conference in the hallway outside his third-floor Capitol office.
King and Gronstal, both of whom live in the fifth congressional district of Iowa, were once colleagues in the state senate. King said earlier this week in eastern Iowa that the Iowa Supreme Court decision on gay marriage might be the tipping point for him and provoke him to run for governor.
UPDATE: Gronstal said the same thing to me later this afternoon. Read the Radio Iowa story, which includes King's reaction. "Senator Gronstal is afraid to allow a vote on marriage," King said in reply.
Remind you of kids in an endless "Did not!"/"Did, too!" loop?
