McCoy: gay marriage good for the economy.

Senator Matt McCoy, a Democrat from Des Moines who is openly gay, has introduced a bill which would rewrite Iowa laws to omit words like "husband" or "wife" and insert "spouse" if the Iowa Supreme Court upholds a district court judge's decision and gay marriage becomes legal in Iowa. It's Senate File 353

I just interviewed McCoy at the statehouse, and he concluded with this statement:  "I think it's a good bill and it's something that shouldn't be controversial. We should just be thinking about how this is all going to work once Iowa becomes a Mecca for gay marriage."

I immediately asked a follow-up question: "Will Iowa become a Mecca for gay marriage?"

"Well, that's what Chuck Hurley says," McCoy replied, adding. “I think it’d be good for the economy.”

Chuck Hurley is a former state legislator, a Republican, who now heads the Iowa Family Policy Center, a group which has been outspoken in its opposition to gay marriage.

  1. Since less than two percent of the U.S. population consists of persons with Same-Sex Attraction, allowing Same-Sex ‘Marriage’ will never result in a boon to the local economy.
Besides, after the nuptials comes the health risks, mental instability, high suicide rates and escalated substance abuse.
If smokers are a drain on society, how can we say anything less of persons with SSA?
Matt McCoy is a self-serving, dangerous man.

So much for good old Iowa values. Absolutely disgusting to try and make Iowa a “mecca” for gay marriage. How does this guy stay elected?
