IOWA CONGRESSIONAL MEMBERS ANNOUNCE RECEPTION FOLLOWING INAUGURATION OF PRESIDENT-ELECT BARACK OBAMA
Iowans visiting Washington are encouraged to stop by reception following the Presidential swearing-in ceremony
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Tom Harkin and Chuck Grassley today announced that they will join with Iowa Representatives Bruce Braley (IA-1), Dave Loebsack (IA-2), Leonard Boswell (IA-3) and Tom Latham (IA-4) to host a reception honoring the 56th Presidential Inauguration on TUESDAY, January 20th from 2-4 pm. The reception will take place in room 124 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building. Light refreshments will be served.
“The swearing in of the next president of the United States is an exciting time for Iowans and all Americans,” said Harkin. “I look forward to meeting with those who have traveled to Washington to witness this historic event.”
“The presidential inauguration shows the rest of the world how a peaceful transfer of power works and demonstrates the great power of each Americans’ rights and responsibilities of citizenship,” Grassley said. “This historic event is exciting for all of us and I look forward to seeing all the Iowans who are visiting our nation’s capital to attend an occasion none of us will forget.”
UPDATE: King spokesman Matt Lauer says King's share of the cost of cookies & punch would have been about $100 and King didn't want to take that money out of his campaign treasury because he didn't think the people who donated to his campaign would approve of such spending.
