New leaders for both of the state’s major political parties

Iowa Democratic Party chairman Scott Brennan told me at the Democratic National Convention in Dener that he would not seek reelection to the job.  Today, Republican Party of Iowa chairman Stewart Iverson has made his intentions public.  He will not seek reelection to the job.

The Iowa GOP's State Central Committee will choose a new leader at their January meeting (although they have a make-up meeting scheduled in December).  The two names I've heard floated today for the GOP job are Ted Sporer, Polk County Republican Party chairman, and Bill Dix, a former state legislator from Shell Rock.

The Iowa Democratic Party's State Central Committee must meet within 90 days fo the general election and that's when they'll choose a new chair.  No specific date has been set for that post-election/beginning of the 2010 cycle meeting.
