Mason City Rotary

David Underwood, a long-time member of the State Revenue Estimating Conference, is a member of the Mason City Rotary which meets at noon on Mondays.  Underwood invited me to speak to the group today. Underwood is serving as the group’s interim president as well.  He closed the meeting with this joke.

"Daddy, do all fairy tales begin with ‘Once upon a time,’" a little girl asked her father one evening.

"No, honey," the father replied.  "Sometimes they begin with ‘If elected, I promise.’"

Underwood recently retired as CFO & treasurer of AADG in Mason City.  He has resumed his piano playing and retrieved his old saxophone from a relative and begun playing in a couple of local bands.  I can report his singing voice is strong, as the Rotarians opened the meeting with a rendition of "America the Beautiful."  They also sang a Rotary song, followed by the Meredith Willson tune "May the Good Lord Bless & Keep You."  The Mason City Rotary’s songbook, however, had only one L in Willson’s name.  Willson, as you may recall, is a Mason City native.
