Dr. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, an eye doctor (ophthalmologist) from Ottumwa, is the GOP candidate for Iowa’s second congressional district seat. I wrote earlier about her appearance at The Des Moines Register’s Soap Box on the state fairgrounds. One last note about that, regarding her answer to the fairgoer asked her about the national debt.
"We have a tremendous national debt at this time, as you know. That will probably require us to do some things in increasing revenues, which requires us to grow the economy. It may require us to decrease spending, which I would suggest that it do. Do you have a budget in your household?" Miller-Meeks asked the fairgoer.
"Yes," he answered.
"Do you maintain your budget?" Miller-Meeks asked. "Are you on the Dave Ramsey plan?"
"I am," the fairgoer replied.
"
"Dave Ramsey! Shout out for Dave Ramsey. I am a Dave Ramsey afficianado as well. Yes sir, there you go. We need to live within our budget and I think in the previous administration we had a ‘pay-go’ plan. We need to get back to pay-go. We don’t increase spending unless we have a method to pay for that and we have the funds there available, so absolutely we need to stay within our budget and decrease our budget," Miller-Meeks said.
Interesting how republicans refuse to answer questions about the national debt, as if it was unavoidable. I especially like the deliberate avoidance of the tax cut for the wealthy trick. Never did create one job, far as I can figure. A singular reason for those tax cuts, and utter failure. Now, with elections coming up, the idea is to ignore the whole cause/effect discussion, hoping voters won’t have made the connection this is a republican responsibility for the last eight years, and all they’ve done is to rape and pillage the country to the advantage of a few, at the expense of the many.
Miller-Meeks wants those most harmed by her party to bail them out. Weird.
