A little damp at the Danielson homestead

Here are a few pictures to illustrate the widespread nature of the flooding.

Daryard

Radio Iowa’s Dar Danielson grew up near Janesville, Iowa. His parents still live on the farm which is located two miles south of Janesville and five miles north of Cedar Falls. It’s situated just to the east of new Highway 218. While some water seeped in through cracks in the basement in 1993, there had never before been surface flooding on their farm. The 2008 flood’s waterline reached the Danielson home’s foundation, but didn’t get high enough to flood into the home’s first level.

The picture on the left is of the Danielson’s front yard. The picture in the right is what that front yard looked like on June 10, 2008.

Dar’s parents have started pumping water out of their basement and hope to have it low enough to hook the water back up this weekend.  At one point there was six feet of water in the basement.

This property normally is about a mile from the Cedar River.  That gives you an idea of how widespread the flooding was.
