Iowans who wish to vote in next Tuesday’s primary election may do so, even if they have not registered in advance. The state law allowing same-day voter registration takes effect for the Tuesday, June 3, 2008 primary.
Secretary of State Michael Mauro, the state’s commissioner of elections, talked about the change during an appearance on IPTV’s Iowa Press last Friday. Mauro’s office issued a news release today with some information about registering at your polling place.
Secretary of State Michael A. Mauro announced today that his office is posting an instructional video on the Secretary of State’s website about Iowa’s new Election Day Registration law. While it is directed at training precinct officials on the procedure of Election Day registration, the video also provides useful information for voters.
“By making this video available, voters will have the opportunity to have a greater understanding of what to expect at the polling places,” Mauro stated.
A link to the Election Day Registration video and a link to an Election Day Registration Guide can be found on the Secretary of State’s website at www.sos.state.ia.us.
Also on Iowa Press, Mauro said some interesting things about Michigan’s bid to displace Iowa’s Caucuses in the primary/caucus calendar.
