McCain’s “Late Show” entrance

Arizona Senator John McCain is the guest on David Letterman’s show tonight, and McCain will utter the words that "officially" make him a 2008 candidate — just in case you were wondering.  Howard Mortman wrote a review of the campaign quips McCain pulled out of the joke vault during McCain’s recent swing through Iowa.  The ethanol joke loses something in the re-typing.  You really have to hear McCain’s "ummm" to appreciate the moment.

In the 2004 cycle, you may recall that John Edwards, who was in the U.S. Senate then representing North Carolina, "officially" announced his candidacy during an appearance on The Daily Show.

And California’s governator announced his candidacy on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

The other candidates have other "late night talk shows" to choose from when making their announcements.  Will it be The Colbert Report, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson or Late Night with Conan O’Brien?  Or perhaps Jimmy Kimmel Live or Last Call with Carson Daly?

  1. Maybe Letterman will help McCain as much as Leno and Daily SHow helped Vilsack…
