When we talk about space travel, NASA is the agency in charge. We don’t say Deoxyribonucleic Acid when we’re talking about DNA. And acronyms may pervade this afternoon’s Iowa House debate of a bill that would extend incentives to long-time state employees who agree to retire early.
One is “SLIP” which stands for Sick Leave Incentive Program. The other is R.I.P. No, it’s not Rest in Peace. It stands for Retirement Incentive Program. There will also be multiple references to IPERS, pronounced EYE-perz around these parts. IPERS is the acronym for the Iowa Public Employees Retirement System.
